POLICY REGARDING MINORS AT WORKSHOPS

The Wild Horse Workshops are intense programs involving participants with varying levels of experience who are working with wild horses and burros. Safety of participants, animals and staff is of paramount importance. Participants and clinicians have to concentrate in the working pens and not be worried about what children outside the pens are doing that may startle the animals or result in injury to themselves. Participants and clinicians need to be able to relax undisturbed during breaks and meals. It is necessary to minimize risks and distractions at all times and such risks include children.

Oftentimes children pose safety problems at workshops. It is a long program. Children naturally get bored and many become distracting or disruptive in attempts to entertain themselves. Children running on the bleachers, calling to or otherwise distracting participants in the pens and/or disturbing the peace during meals and breaks create safety problems and will not be permitted. As a result of our experiences with children at previous workshops the following safety policy regarding children has been adopted and will be enforced.

I.   Children at Workshops (in general):

  1. No unsupervised children will be permitted inside the facility or near the holding corrals.

    • Supervised means that a responsible adult will be with the children at all times and can remove them to an appropriate area to play when they become bored and disruptive.

    • Supervised does not mean that other program participants will be enlisted to supervise and care for another person's children.

  2. All children inside the facility or near the holding corrals shall behave in a manner that is not disruptive or unsafe or they shall be immediately removed to a location that does not impact workshop activities.

    • Running, throwing objects, shouting, trespassing into restricted areas and similar behavior in the arena and near horse corrals is not permitted.

II.  Children Participating in Workshops:

This is an adult program however we recognize that some minors have sufficient experience and maturity to register as participants in the program. The following rules apply to minors who wish to be participants.

  1. Except when approved by the Workshop Director, no minors under the age of sixteen shall be permitted inside or proximate to any training pens.

  2. A responsible parent or guardian shall be present at all times when any minor registered as a participant is inside or proximate to any training pens.

    • It is not appropriate for a parent or guardian to leave a minor participant and expect other adults who do not normally look after said minor to supervise him/her.

  3. The participation of minors shall be limited to activities that the clinicians determine are safe and appropriate under the circumstances.

III. Enforcement of Rules:

  1. Children who are continually disruptive will be removed from the premises and to the custody of a parent or guardian.

  2. No registration fees will be refunded for participants who have to leave the program as a result of behavioral issues involving children.

I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THIS POLICY AND FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENTS. I AM AWARE THAT THIS IS A CONTRACT BETWEEN MYSELF, DESERET PEAK ARENA AND LEAST RESISTANCE TRAINING CONCEPTS, INC, AND I SIGN IT OF MY OWN FREE WILL.
