LRTC Wild Horse Mentors'
WILD HORSE WORKSHOP 2003
Butterfield Corrals Tour

Special Feature

Horses checking out visitors
One of the highlights of the workshop was the tour of BLM's Butterfield Wild Horse Holding Facility. Many of us have seen BLM facilities before but we found Butterfield to be an exceptional environment for the horses with large enclosures containing natural cover and topography. The attitude among most of the horses was curious and playful.

B.T. Frost and Art DeGrazia gave the group an excellent tour of the facility and they should be very proud of what they have accomplished at Butterfield.

Free feed is provided all day long to reduce conflicts
The calmness among most of the horses is soon evident

  THE MARE AND FOAL CORRAL
There were several definite points of interest during the tour. One was the mare and foal corral.

Mares and foals are always interesting but it was particularly encouraging to view a number of very healthy mares and foals playing about in a somewhat natural setting, curiously viewing the mob of onlookers.
